For example:

  • 543 = 5 x 102 + 4 x 101 + 3 x 100 p
  • 789.56 = 7 x 102 + 8 x 101 + 9 x 100 + 5 x 10-1 + 6 x 10-2

In these equations, the power of 10 represents the place value of each digit.
